Horseback Riding: Eatons’ offers our guests the unique opportunity to ride one of our 220 horses unescorted with the permission of the Ranch. This allows guests the remarkable freedom to fully explore this beautiful 7,000 acres of country. Guests can ride out from our Wyoming Dude Ranch twice a day Monday through Friday, choosing among morning, afternoon and evening rides. We also have all-day rides into the Bighorn National Forest as well as breakfast and dinner rides. Riding is a bit more limited on weekends; there are only morning and afternoon rides on Saturday, and on Sunday there is only a morning ride as the rest of the day is our horse holiday. Wranglers are always available to guide rides and offer instruction.
Overnight Pack Trips: Trips in the Bighorn National Forest provide another horseback riding adventure for our guests. The Ranch supplies horses, guides, wrangler-cook and all of the necessary equipment. Plans for a pack trip can be made after your arrival at the Ranch and are offered Tuesday through Thursday conditions permitting.
Exercise Room: The exercise room(s) is located in Pike #13, 14, and 15. There you will find a treadmill, elliptical machine, dumbbell weights, stability balls and mats for floor work and stretching.
Swimming Pool: The Ranch’s 40 X 70-foot pool is within walking distance from your cabin. There is also a hot tub available for guest use; soak those tired muscles after a ride!
Fishing: Guests can fish in the pristine mountain waters of Wolf Creek, other nearby streams and rivers, or ourown bass pond. Our Wyoming dude ranch offers experts as well as novices the chance to catch rainbows, brookies, browns and large-mouth bass. You can bring your own equipment or use our gear and find flies and tackle in our Wolf Creek Fly Shop. For guided day trips on the Bighorn River, we recommend Kingfishers Lodge in Ft. Smith, MT (1 1/2 hours from Wolf). Rates are $450 per day and includes guided float trip, lunch and flies. Fishing licenses and gratuities are not included. For more information, please visit their website: www.bighornkingfisher.com. We also recommend Fly Shop of the Big Horns in Sheridan, WY for guided trips, www.troutangler.com.
Trap Shooting: One round of trap shooting, (25 shots), is included in each guests’ stay at Eatons’ Ranch. Each additional round is $10/person. Trap shooting is available Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between at 2:00pm – limit 8 people per outing.
Other Entertainment: Wranglers frequently gather at Gentry Field (the Ranch rodeo grounds) for jackpot team roping or just for a little practice. There is a weekly dance in Howard Hall (the recreation building), and during the rest of the week the Hall is the center of activity for the young set. The Main House provides the perfect setting for various social gatherings or to play cards and games. The Apartment bar located in the Main House is open daily from 4:30-10:00pm. The ranch family offers a nightly cocktail hour in the Apartment Bar from 5-6pm.
Golfing: The Sheridan area also boasts two courses, Kendrick Municipal, and the area’s newest course, The Powder Horn. This course was recently rated #65 on America’s Top 100 Modern Courses List.
Massages: Massages by local therapists are offered at various times throughout the week. Time slots to schedule an on-campus appointment are posted on the Dining Hall porch for your convenience.
Mountain Biking: Bring your own or we can assist you to arrange for a rental during your stay from Back Country Bikes in Sheridan, WY. Numerous and varied trails offer something for every level of rider. Our only request is that there are no bikes on the trails during riding times.
